applications

Hyperphosphatemia
Since the kidneys of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients are no longer able to filter out the phosphates present in everyday food, 60% of these patients suffer from hyperphosphatemia (elevated blood phosphorus levels). Neither can dialysis fully remove all phosphorus from the body. Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) in phosphate binders Niacet’s calcium acetate is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient in so-called phosphate binders, which are used to reduce the absorption of phosphate into the human body. Calcium acetate combines with the phosphates present in most foods and drinks and forms insoluble calcium phosphate complexes that are eliminated from the body. This reduces phosphorus absorption by the body and lowers the phosphorus levels of the blood. Our calcium acetate is FDA listed (DMF #18997). Our manufacturing of products calcium acetate at Tiel, NL site is certified by the Health Care Inspectorate – Pharmaceutical Affairs Medical Technology of the Dutch Ministry with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification. This certification affirms Niacet’s commitment to supplying the highest quality active ingredients and excipients for the pharmaceutical industry.

Niacet’s technical acetates are widely used in a number of different industries and for various applications. Our acetates are used in many industrial applications. Their main effect is pH adjustment, crystallization aid, or as a catalyst or reagent. Niacet’s ingredients are used in resins, coatings, detergents, dyes, heat packs, carbon black, drilling fluids, ceramics, leather tanning, fire extinguishers, polymers, carpet backing, textile dyeing and conditioning, photography, lubricants, anti-freeze, and personal hygiene products, to mention just a few applications. Calcium Acetate is used in the production of lubricants, calcium soap, carbon black, and resins for printing ink. It is also used in water treatment and as a concrete accelerator. Furthermore is used as a blowing agent for PVC foam.
