Girlsday 2016 at Niacet site Tiel a success – April 14, 2016
On Thursday April 14th the Niacet site in Tiel opened her doors for Girlsday 2016. Several employees, mostly women, welcomed a group of 32 girls in the age 12-14 years.
It was the third time that Niacet participated in Girlsday. Like previous years we hope we inspired the young girls to choose a technical education.
The visit started with a short presentation about Niacet, our products and processes.
After the introduction the group was split in 4 smaller groups. Once they were all set up with the necessary protective equipment (coat, helmet and goggles) they were ready to tour the site.
The girls could participate in some simple chemistry experiments and during their visit of the laboratory they could learn how a microscope works. They visited the warehouse and one of the production departments, where they could see the automated packaging line.
Before they went home the girls all received a Niacet bag with some small presents.
On Girlsday, a huge number of technology companies, higher education institutions and science centers open their doors for girls aged 10 to 15. The girls are offered the opportunity to participate in interesting activities organized specially for them, and to see first-hand how science and technology are used in everyday professional practice. Girlsday is an initiative devised by VHTO, the Dutch national expert organization on girls/women and science/technology, to encourage girls to become familiar with science, technology and ICT from a young age. This national event takes place annually in April.
